DASDA is a trans-stilbene derivative that has amino and sulfonic acid functional groups on each of the two phenyl rings. The reaction of 4,4-dinitro-2,2-stilbenedisulfonic acid with iron powder produces DASDA. It is used in the production of dyestuff. It's mostly employed in the production of optical brightening agents as a chemical intermediary. It's also commonly used in laundry detergents as an optical brightener.
